From the Southeast to the Western Mediterranean – Greece's geostrategic extension
A geopolitical energy shift is underway in the Southeastern Mediterranean, where recoverable natural gas reserves range from 3,500 to 4,500 Bcm. This is only half of the estimated reserves. Further west, the deposits in Crete and the Ionian Sea can bolster Greece’s role as an energy producer, beyond its traditional function as a transit hub (published August 18, 2025).
