Public attention has now shifted to electricity cables and Turkey’s violations in the Dodecanese, pushing hydrocarbon exploration and the completion of marine spatial planning to the background—a point strongly emphasized by the European Court of Justice in late February. Turkey's provocations regarding the Israel-Cyprus-Greece (GSI) electricity interconnection clearly reveal its intention to dominate future projects in the region. Greece, on its part, must ensure the continuation of this project, which is one-third funded by the EU, while also safeguarding its sovereign rights in its territorial waters. Consequently, it has opted to avoid escalating tensions with Turkey, particularly in light of the meeting of the foreign ministers of Greece, Cyprus, and Israel, and has chosen to formally freeze GSI activities—though this decision reduces its future negotiating power.
